A flagellate with a rough surface
After being collected from a paddy field, the sample was put on 1% agar plate with a drop of distilled water and kept for a few days.
The uneven surface of this flagellate looks as if it is covered with sand particles. The organism moves forward slowly with its long narrow flagellum leading the way.

A long narrow flagellum extends forward and the surface of whole body is indeed covered with fine sand particles, which is the characteristic feature of Peranomonas granulifera. Sand particles adhere even to its flagellum.
