A trapped Euglena
A Euglena is stuck to a particle and appears to be trapped. The body is distorted from struggling to break free, and it remains stuck in the same position for more than 30 minutes.
Commentary by Prof. Yuji Tsukii, Hosei University
The title of this video, “Euglena”, may not be correct. Two long protuberances extend from the upper and lower left side of its green body, and the tip of each protuberance is round. Judging from these features, this green body could be the cell at the outer edge of a collapsed colony of Pediastrum muticum.

It is likely that a colony of Pediastrum muticum accidentally collapsed leaving one cell outside of the colony. The cell survived and matured. Its round body is similar to the picture in the following webpage.
